The small village of Reeves is seeing growth with the construction of a new Family Dollar location and now the announcement of a project to build 10 new cottage homes in the community.
The new cottage homes will be constructed on North Lyles and Ford St. by Charlie Williams’ company. The two-bedroom, two bathroom cottages will feature cathedral ceilings along with a modern kitchen, built-in cabinets and closets. Outside there will be gutters and shutters and even a storage area. Janise Williams, a member of the Williams’ company, said neutral colors like grays and tans will be used.
Reeves Mayor Chris Guillory said, “I am very excited about the new development coming to the city. The Williams have done some really nice work in the area and I’m excited to see the project develop. Another positive – this will also add 10 more connections to our sewer plant and help make it more profitable. Overall, I’m happy to see new homes being built in the village.”
The Williams family wants to invest in their community. “My grand-kids go to school here,” she said. “We support Reeves, and the city doesn’t get a lot of income within our city limits,” said Janise Williams.
She said they are getting their permits in order and will break ground on the first cottage during the first week of December, providing weather cooperates and no last minute delays occur. She expects each cottage to take two-and-a-half to three months to complete. She said they will be working on three or four cottages at one time to get this project underway.
Williams said she knew Mayor Guillory, and they began talking about different projects. The Williams have built several homes – five to be exact – on the Topsy Bel Road in the Topsy Bel Road Subdivision. They are working on a brick home at this time. Soon, they were purchasing property in Reeves and putting plans in motion to build 10 cottages for additional housing possibilities in the village.
She said this would not be like those brick homes, but they will be of the same quality the family has done in the past just on a smaller scale “The lots are smaller here,” she explained.
Williams said they are ready to sell the cottages now. She said the company works with two local realtors and also has financing tools available for those persons interested in purchasing a cottage. If someone purchases a cottage before construction is underway, the buyer can have a voice in the color palette.
