Holiday Dazzle on Main, previously celebrated as the 12 Days of Christmas, is set for Thursday, December 9, and organizers have decided to make a one day event offering shoppers the chance to shop after-hours from 5 to 8 p.m.
Oakdale Chamber Office Assistant Sarah Johnson said the first businesses to sign-up for the event were Gordon’s Jewelry and All Hours Fitness. They are now seeking other businesses who wish to participate. Email the Chamber with your information at oakdaleareachamb@ gmail.com. This event is open to all businesses in town.
Those businesses participating will receive a special light bulb from the Chamber that will designate they are participating in the holiday event.
Business decorating contest
There will be a business window decorating contest for businesses located in Oakdale, Elizabeth and Oberlin. To enter, decorate your window for Christmas and contact the Chamber that you have an entry. The deadline to enter is December 1. All windows must be completed by December 5th. If you require a night judging due to lighting, please be sure to indicate that information. The judging will be done on December 6. Winners will be announced on December 11, during the Christmas Festival Day’s activities. First, second and third places will be given.
Christmas Festival Day
Organizers of this event are looking for volunteers for volunteers willing to perform, play music, etc. for the festival day. Johnson said they are trying to fill every time slot to celebrate the holiday.
The event is usually observed from 10th Street (Mowad Civic Center) to the Sixth Avenue intersection and then to the high school. Vendors, entertainers and other events will begin setting up as early as 8:30 a.m. The theme this year is “Christmas on the Bayou.”
There will be a kid barrel train ride along with demonstrations from Kenson Ryu Karate at 11 a.m. and Helen Gordon School of Dance at 2 p.m.
The annual Christmas parade will be Saturday, December 11, at 4 p.m. Lineup will be at 2:30 p.m. Dr. Patrick Savoy, M.D. is the grand marshal of the parade.
Fireworks will begin at 6 p.m. The concession stand will open before the fireworks at Curtis T. Memorial Football Field with gumbo, nachos and drinks for sale.
