The parish’s tax collections, according to the May report, continue to show steady increases when compared to amounts collected last year. Even the year-to-date totals are showing increases.
This year the parish has collected sales taxes in the amount of $8,667,549.53 overall compared to $6,247,383.19 collected at the same time last year. This is $2.4 million more than last year. And when compared monthly, the parish collected $1,751,271.61 in May 2021 compared to $1,192,418.87 collected in May of 2020.
Those comparisons for the month of May showed only two agencies receiving less collections this past May than in May 2020. Elizabeth received almost $3,800 less in 2021 than in 2020. Elizabeth received $14,872.85 in 2020 and $11,098.94 in 2021. Reeves also had a negative amount of $1,165.64 in comparisons between 2020 and 2021 with $6,185.87 collected this year and $7,351.51 collected in 2020.
The school board’s #1 and #2 taxing district collected $205,413.14 more this past May ($618,754.92) than in May 2020 ($413,341.78). The school board’s #3 saw an increase of $103,550.62 with $310,196.19 collected compared to last year’s collections of $206,645.57. The other government bodies with big increases included:
•Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office with $310,196.19 in 2021 compared to $206,645.56 in 2020 for a difference of $103,550.63.
•Allen Parish Police Jury with $217,137.88 in 2021 compared to $144,652.60 in 2020 for a difference of $72,485.28.
•Allen Parish Occupancy Tax with $6,466.54 in 2021 compared to $848.05 in 2020 for a difference of $5,618.49.
•Allen Parish Tourist Commission with $19,399.63 in 2021 compared to $2,544.19 in 2020 for a difference of $16,855.44.
All of the parish collections were affected by COVID 19, hurricanes, cold weather or a combination of all three along with other factors. The monthly report is made available by the Allen Parish School Board which is composed by Pat Latigue, sales tax administrator for the parish.
