Lisa Brady, Oakdale’s own, recently competed in regionals in Salt Lake City Championship in body building and won Over All in her division to secure a spot for the opportunity to compete at Universe in Charleston, South Carolina, on July 1st.
Lisa has been competing for four years now alternating with gain periods and crash diets to lean out for each show. She states she has actually been preparing for the Universe competition for two years due to setbacks by Covid. Her dedication has paid off tremendously.
Lisa said she knew that she had to win overall when competing in Utah to secure a spot at the main competition. Universe is considered a pro-qualifier to win a pro-card and start competing at a premium level. At the regional level, she competed against approximately 25 other individuals; Universe will up the level of competition as well as the contenders.
When asking Lisa how she initially got into competing, she said it all started over a breakup. Lisa was told that she would never be taken seriously and that she would not stick it out. Little did he know, this was just the motivation Lisa needed to get her started while her grit and heart have got her through the past four years.
When Lisa was asked what gets her through her hardest day. Without hesitation she said, “Honestly, everyone at my gym. There have been days I did not want to be there and they stayed to make sure I was done with what I had to do even though they were done with their workout.”
All-Hours Fitness in Oakdale has supported Lisa in its entirely not only professionally but personally through the support given to her in and outside the gym.
Lisa is the first in this area to be going to the Universe competition as well as the first female body builder from this area. She is now a four-time nationally ranked body builder and her career is just starting to take off at a pro-level. Lisa said chicken and green beans are a staple in her life, all day, every day, but she gave credit to a local restaurant Pitstop as her cheat meal once a week. Lisa said “The double meat swamp burger has my heart!”
