One arrest has been made and others could follow as the Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation into a disturbance at an after prom celebration outside of Kinder early Sunday morning, March 21.
The party, which was at a private residence on Ward Line Road, located approximately 10 miles north of Kinder off Green Oak Road, was not a school sanctioned function. At approximately 2 a.m., the sheriff’s office and Coushatta Tribal Police were called to the residence reportedly for gunfire shot into a large crowd, composed of mostly juveniles.
Sheriff Doug Hebert III said the crowd was large, but they don’t have any numbers yet. He said, “A lot came and went from the party.”
The sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division learned shots were fired amongst the large crowd. The initial investigation revealed several altercations occurred resulting in several shots being fired from multiple suspects at the location and on the roadway.
Hebert said, “During the initial altercation, two victims were struck by one suspect with a suspected pair of brass knuckles resulting in non-life threatening injuries.”
On Sunday evening, detectives were able to identify a suspect and arrest that person for the injuries sustained in the altercation. Collin Blake Kershaw, 19, of Lake Charles, was arrested and charged with two counts of violating Louisiana Revised Statute 14:34.7, aggravated second degree battery.
Judge David Deshotels, 33 Judicial District, set Kershaw’s bond at $80,000.
Several juveniles and adults from multiple areas of the region have been identified as being present during the incident, Hebert explained. The investigation is ongoing and more charges are forthcoming.
