New business added to the agenda Monday evening, February 1, allowed the Reeves Council to welcome Jerrie Ledoux, aide to U.S. Congressman Mike Johnson, to discuss the post office situation in the village.
The village is without a post office since the hurricanes damaged its former location. The council agreed to allow Mayor Chris Guillory to pen a letter to Johnson’s office officially asking for help. Councilman Glenn Duchame made the motion with a second from Councilman Mick Estay The vote was unanimous.
Ledoux also said Johnson was working on expanding the timeline for debris pickup in Allen Parish.
The council announced the retirement of Randy Lapoint on Sunday, February 28, 2021. He has been with the village since 2012. Jonathan Wade will oversee the sewer system. The council did not replace Lapoint, because it will look at cost efficient ways to proceed for the village’s future.
In new business, the council did discuss the rumors that a store may be opening in the community. The mayor said he reached out to the owner of the business to see what he could learn, but he had not heard any confirmation.
In police business, the council agreed to place an officer on unpaid medical leave. Chief Waylin Bertrand gave a brief report on the department’s attendance to former Officer Darrell Semien’s funeral. The department and mayor went to the funeral home.
The council received an update on FEMA. They are still waiting on a date to be set for the site inspection, which was postponed due to Covid-19.
