At press time, Oberlin Mayor Joseph “Moochie” Manuel was still waiting to hear what the Town of Oberlin will have to do to fill one of its council seats.
Last week, qualifying was held for the March ballot for four seats in the parish at the Clerk of Court’s office. Three of those seats were filled with unopposed candidates:
•Allen Parish Police Jury District Seven: Chad Sanders
•Justice of Peace, Ward Two (Kinder): Joey Caldarera
•Oberlin City Council District Three: Linda “Whip” Boulden.
However, the District Two seat on the Oberlin City Council was not filled because no one qualified for the seat. At the moment, Michelle Campbell has been appointed to the seat by the council.
Stacey Hurst, Allen Parish Clerk of Court, said she was waiting for direction from the state on how to proceed forward in the case of filling the District Two seat in Oberlin. Hurst said she did not know if they would reopen qualifications for the next election or wait. (The next election would be April 24.)
At this time, Registrar of Voters Monica F. Warren said the parish would not have anything on the March ballot.
