It was a night of appointments and adopting resolutions for the Oberlin Council on Monday evening, January 11.
Mayor Joseph “Moochie” Manuel his two new council members to their respective committees. Michelle Coleman was appointed to finances and parks. Linda Boulden was appointed to streets and LACE. Boulden was also noted as the signer on the general fund and LACE 2 account.
The council also approved resolutions to apply for funding for the 2020-21 LGAP (Local Government Assistance Program) and 2020-21 CWEF (Community Water Enrichment Fund) programs. Glenn Turner with Meyer, Meyer, Lacroix and Hixon told council members the maximum monies for a town is $35,000. A city can receive up to $50,000 and a village is $25,000. The mayor would like to apply for LGAP funds to repair their side boom tractor and to purchase a used dump truck. Funding from CWEF would assist the town in repairing leaks, etc. after Oberlin completes the ongoing project to upgrade its water system.
The mayor also said the town had received funding several years back to make schools safer. The funding was going to make a one-way street for traffic and install sidewalks in the area. The project manager retired, and the mayor has a zoom meeting with the DOTD representative to discuss the funding and what can be done with it. He would like to repair sidewalks down Main Street. He invited the two new council-persons to meet him for the meeting to hear the town’s options.
