The Oakdale Chamber of Commerce is planning Christmas activities and inviting the public to participate.
Christmas on Main will be observed December 12. The Old Fashioned Christmas celebration will begin at 9 a.m. with the 2020 Jingle Bell Walk. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Wellness Center. A holiday breakfast will be served immediately after the walk. The first 25 registrants will receive a pair of antlers.
There will be crafts and food vendors, The Thunder Valley Speedway, entertainment and area choirs ringing in the season.
Don’t forget the Chilli Cookoff at the Oakdale City Hall. Rules and instructions will be given soon. Judging will be at 1 p.m. Residents can purchase bracelets for $10 a person and receive a bowl and spoon to sample all of the entries.
Live music is planned, and the parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. Fireworks will follow.
There will be a meeting to finalize plans today, November 19, at 12 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Hall. Everyone is invited. A parade marshal will be named.
The 2020 Miss Merry Christmas Auditions also are set for today. Eight high school seniors will compete for the title of Miss Merry Christmas 2020. The rest of the girls will be named to the Christmas Court. Competing for the honor are Madeline Chamberlain, Madelyn Duplechain, Janessa Janice, Lydia Lejeune, Jadyn Maloney, Morgan Paul, Emily Peters and Alexa Sumbler.
The Chamber will be hosting the 12 Days of Christmas. Organizers ask each business to pick a day to host a Christmas festivity leading to the Christmas parade. Please contact the Chamber and let them know how your business will be participating.
The Store Front Christmas Decorating Contest will be held in conjunction with the festivities. “Let’s light up the town by decorating business windows for Christmas,” organizers encouraged all owners. Everyone who wants to participate should contact the Chamber by sending or calling in your business name, address and contact person. Judging will be Monday, November 30, at 4 p.m.
Chamber officers are Phyllis Crawford, president; Sarah Ballard, first vice president; Emily Butler, second vice president; and Royce Scimemi, treasurer.
