At press time, in unofficial results, President Donald Trump and Michael Pence (R) took 77 percent (7,574) of the vote in Allen Parish. The Joseph R. Biden ticket with Kamala Harris (D) received 21 percent (2,108) of the parish’s vote. A total of 9,810 votes cast their ballot in Allen Parish, which is about 70.1 percent of the registered voters.
In the U.S. Senate race, Bill Cassidy received 75 percent (7,077) of the vote in Allen Parish unofficially. Others receiving votes in the parish included Derrick “Champ” Edwards with 10 percent (926 votes) and Adrian Perkins with 5 percent (483).
Mike Johnson received the most votes in Allen for the U. S. Representative — 4th Congressional District race. Johnson had 70 percent (6,365 votes) followed by Kenny Houston with 15 percent (1,370) and Ben Gibson with 10 percent (899).
There will be a runoff for the District Judge, 33rd Judicial District Court, Division A race. Judy Abrusley led with 44 percent (4,098) followed by Chad Guidry with 29 percent (2,732) and Steven Sumbler with 27 percent (2,515). A runoff will exist between Abrusley and Guidry according to the unofficial numbers.
Gene Paul kept his seat as mayor in Oakdale with 60 percent of the vote (1,139). His opponent James Vidrine received 40 percent (746 votes).
The Oakdale Chief of Police will be Chad Doyle with 70 percent (1,310 votes). Bryan Hargrove received 30 percent (568 votes).In Oakdale, council races ended with:
•District One – Cassandra “Shon Allison with 66 percent (295 votes), winner, and Gwendolyn Alsburry with 34 percent (149 votes).
•District Two – Fredrick “Pos” Douglas with 78 percent (404), winner, and “Ben” Jack with 22 percent (114).
•District Four – Jeremy Smith with 68 percent (347), winner, and Ralph Stapleton with 32 percent (161).
Voters in the parish approved the:
•First Amendment – Relating to declaring there is no right to an no funding of abortion in the Louisiana Constitution (Yes – 7,567 to No – 1,837);
•Second Amendment – Amends determination of fair market value of oil or gas well (Yes – 4,582 to No – 4,537);
•Sixth Amendment – Increases income limit for homestead exemption special assessment level (Yes – 5,126 to No – 3,948); and
•Seventh Amendment – Creates Louisiana Unclaimed Property Permanent Trust Fund (Yes – 4,959 to No – 4,112).
Voters did not approve the following amendments:
•Amendment Three – Amends use of budget stabilization fund (Yes – 4,055 to No – 5,048)
•Amendment Four – Limits expenditure limit for state general fund (Yes – 3,638 to No – 5,308)
•Amendment Five – Authorizes cooperative endeavor tax exemptions (Yes – 2,989 to No – 6,008)
The proposition to allow sports wagering activities was approved by Allen Parish with 5,050 votes for the proposition compared to 3,890 against.
The Village of Elizabeth asked residents whether to allow the mayor and board to appoint a marshal who is the Chief of Police for the Village of Elizabeth. Residents said no with 77 percent of the votes (203) to 23 percent (60) who would have allowed the government body to appoint a person to that position.
State votes
With 58 of the 64 parishes reporting at that time of this posting, the state was supporting Trump with 62 percent of the vote compared to Biden’s 37 percent.
Cassidy was leading the state with 62 percent of the vote.
In the amendments race, voters had approved amendments One, Two, Three, Six and Seven. They voted against enacting Amendment Four and Five.
Mike Johnson was leading the group seeking the Fourth Congressional District seat.
