January 2021 will have a new district attorney serving Allen Parish. After over 20 years of service DA Todd Nesom has decided to retire. The new district attorney will be Joe Green who will take office unopposed for his first term on January 11.
Nesom said, “I dont think the people of Allen Parish could have elected a better man. He is going to do an outstanding job. I support him 100 percent.”
For those who don’t know Green he has worked in Oberlin for 19 years serving the people of Allen Parish. He has lived in Allen Parish (both in Kinder and Oakdale) for 18 years.
His education includes graduating from Louisiana College with a degree in public administration after which he subsequently received his law degree from LSU.
After graduation, he began working in Allen Parish when he accepted a job as law clerk for Allen Parish District Judge Joel G. Davis. After leaving that position, Green became an assistant district attorney for Allen Parish and has served in that capacity for 18 years, working for former District Attorney Doug Hebert Jr. and District Attorney Todd Nesom. He has also served as magistrate judge of the Coushatta Tribal Court since 2008.
Green stated, “I am extremely humbled to have been unopposed in my election to the office of district attorney of Allen Parish. My wife, Reba Powers Green, and I want to give a heartfelt thank you to the citizens of Allen Parish and our legal community for the faith you have placed in me. The outreach of support and prayers have sustained my family, and I promise to each of you that I will fulfill my duties as district attorney to the best of my ability when I take office on January 11, 2021.”
Joe has been married to Reba for 14 years. She is the daughter of Charles and Margaret Powers of Oakdale. The Greens reside in Kinder and are the proud parents of two children, Gillian and Clark. Joe and his family are members of Kinder Bible Church. His parents are Joe and Lenez Green, who now reside in Kinder.
Green also said, “As your district attorney, I will focus on victims, the youth of Allen Parish and drug addiction. I will continue to vigorously prosecute those who victimize others, especially children, and to provide outreach services for those who are victimized. Of particular concern to me are the challenges faced by the youth in our towns, schools, and homes. I will be very proactive in developing prevention programs for adolescents and allocating resources so that we may change tomorrow’s criminal behavior today. I have become keenly aware of how drugs directly impact families and our communities and will aggressively use all resources at my disposal to give those with drug addictions the chance for a productive life, including using the Allen Parish Drug Court. In that same effort, I will also seek to hold drug dealers accountable.
“Again, I am humbled by your support, and I look forward to serving the people of Allen Parish as district attorney. I will strive to be fair and to seek the ends of justice in all that I do. I will also maintain an open door policy and look forward to meeting with you.
“I now ask that each you join with me as we move forward. We are all an important part of reducing criminal activity in Allen Parish. Working together, we can make our communities a better place to live, work, and raise our children. Again, thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you.”
