Early voting for the 2020 Presidential Preference Primary will end Saturday, July 4, at 6 p.m. across the state.
Allen Parish Registrar of Voters Monica F. Warren said the parish had 166 people cast their ballots at the courthouse as of 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30. Her office had received 198 ballots through the mail.
It is important to be registered a Democrat or Republican to vote in this Presidential Preference Primary through early voting or at election on July 11. Voters can only vote for those candidates in their party seeking the presidential seat on November 3.
Warren said the state site, https://www.sos.la.gov, has an application for those who would like to vote but do not want to go to the courthouse due to COVID-19 and their health. At the top of the page, there is a button for COVID-19 which brings voters to an application. Warren said voters can apply for this process for elections to be held in July and August at this. She does not know if the option will be extended. This feature was added to the state’s website in accordance with R. Kyle Ardoin, Secretary of State’s Emergency Plan, approved by the governor and the Louisiana Legislature on Monday, April 27, 2020.
“It’s at the top of the page,” Warren said. “There’s a video on how to complete the form.”
The election for the U.S. Presidential seat will be November 3. Qualifying for the November election has been rescheduled to July 22-24, 2020, pursuant to Act No. 28 of the 2020 Louisiana Legislature.
