Allen Parish School Board Superintendent Kent Reed addressed the parish in a video posted to Facebook™ on Monday.
Reed said that while the APSB is planning for a normal school year at this time they are putting a plan together in the case there will be a need for home learning. He addressed the possibility that the school system might have to go to a “hybrid schedule” if the state is not opened back up, or in the case of the school shutting down at some point during the year.
Option one would be that only half the kids would go to school at one time. There would be a group A or group B. Each child in a family would be in the same group. Each group would attend either Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday. Wednesday would be the home learning day for the school to sanitize between groups.
Option two would be the groups would swap weeks. One group would go Tuesday through Friday one week and the other would go the next week with Monday being the day to sanitize and home learning for all students.
Reed stressed the need for parents to complete a survey that will be mailed to each home. The survey can also be found on the website www.allen.k12.la.us or on the Allen Parish School Board Facebook page. This survey is a way for the schools to see what situation would work best for each family.
