Whether you have the secret ingredient to be crowned champion of the “Anything Over Rice” cookoff this weekend in Kinder or the tastebuds to discover who has the best cooking skills, you are invited to downtown Kinder Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Teams from the American Legion, Kinder Police Department and Kinder Fire Department have been preparing for the cookoff for several weeks and are looking for bragging rights to who has the best dish.
Local residents, who are not participating in the cookoff, are encouraged to attend the event so they can taste the dishes. Adults will be able to purchase a bowl for $5 for all you can eat. Children, 10 and under, will cost $1 per bowl.
Judges for the cookoff will be Louisiana Senator Heather Cloud and Representative Dewith Carrier with Joe Green and Judi Abrusley. A People’s Choice award will be given.
There will be some great prizes to win including two sacks of live crawfish, a Maluna cooler, purple and gold double burner and purple and gold Dutch oven.
A live DJ will provide music throughout the afternoon. Kids will be able to enjoy a bouncy house.
Be kind to your neighbors and remember social distancing.
On Sunday, June 14, annual Flag Day, the veterans of Kinder will hold a flag retirement ceremony at 3 p.m. at the American Legion. Be sure to bring all U.S. flags, which are not up to code, to be retired at the ceremony.
Take time to thank a veteran.
