On Thursday, April 23, the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal (LAOSFM) lifted a statewide burn ban that had been in place for nearly a month.
Amid the coronavirus crisis, the burn ban was initially issued March 24 to minimize the amount of fire-related accidents during the stay-at-home order while families are stuck at home.
LAOSFM added in its press release, “Please remind everyone to still adhere to any local restrictions and to DEQ’s guidelines on acceptable burning materials (https://deq.louisiana.gov/assets/docs/About_LDEQ/enviroschool/BurningPresentation_2019_Update.pdf).
Residents are urged to make sure they comply with restrictions that may be in place in their areas. The ban was lifted by State Fire Marshal H. “Butch” Browning, in conjunction with Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain.
