Allen Parish School Board was initially serving lunch for the students that were in need during the schools being shut down for the COVID-19 pandemic.
The school board released a statement on March 23, halting the serving of meals beginning March 27, due to shortage of supplies and health concerns for workers.
On April 1, the APSB released a statement that meals would be resuming on April 9, and will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. The next date for meal hand outs will be on Monday, April 20.
They will be providing five lunches and five breakfasts in each box. The meals will be delivered to each of the high schools.
The meal service is for any student, up to 18 years old or 21 for special education students. The student does not have to be present, however the guardian who picks up, does have to give their name. Children who do not attend Allen Parish schools must be present, or their parent must provide a birth certificate.
The meals will be picked up in a drive by service. The employees will practice social distancing during the process.
According to APSB Superintendent Kent Reed, graduation schedules for all schools will remain as planned unless there are further closures due to this pandemic. More information on graduation will be provided as the dates near.
Testing, accountability, and attendance requirements for students have been waived for this school year. Also, schools will determine if individual seniors have demonstrated proficiency in the grade-level content and/or course to award credit. If the senior has not, schools can provide options to help these Seniors meet credit requirements. A course pass/fail option will also be available for seniors as part of the uniform grading scale for the 2019-2020 spring semester.
For students in kindergarten to 11th grade they will be receiving grade information in the near future. The grades once completed will help the student be aware of the next steps in their education.
Pre-K registrations will continue once school is back in session or as soon as possible after the COVID-19 threat passes.
