Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic, that the world is foreseeing at this time, the residents of Allen Parish must take all precaution to remain safe, according to Trevor Strother, field operations supervisor for the Allen Parish Mosquito Control.
The CDC, AMCA, LMCA (Louisiana Mosquito Control Association) and APMC (Allen Parish Mosquito Control) will continue to monitor the situation with public health partners and provide and new information as it becomes available.
“Proper personal protective gear and self-quarantine in our homes is important,” he said. “COVID-19 is a very serious virus that affects and can be fatal to all ages. It is more severe in people with underlying illnesses or weak immune systems. Currently the residents of Allen Parish need to take all precautions and avoid public contact as much as possible.
“If you must go into public avoid contact with surfaces other than your hands. Sanitize your hands before entering your vehicle. When returning home strip all clothes before entering your home and sanitize your clothes thoroughly and wash them immediately and shower before doing anything inside your home. Although the world is amid a pandemic, mosquitos and the dangers of mosquitos will still be present.”
Strother said the CDC currently offers the following:
•Mosquitos and ticks can’t spread all types of viruses.
•At this time, the CDC and American Mosquito Control Association have no data to suggest that COVID-19 or other similar coronaviruses (e.g. SARS, MERS) are spread by mosquitos or ticks.
“Allen Parish Mosquito Control will still be out working closely with the CDC and LSU ARBO Virus Lab to run weekly operations when the weather and federal guidelines allow, to ensure the duty of monitoring for vector borne diseases are not on the rise,” he said. “If you have a mosquito problem around your home please call the Allen Parish Mosquito Control call center ((318) 215-0029) and leave a detailed message containing your name, address and return phone number. The Allen Parish Mosquito Control call center is available 24 hours a day. Thank you, stay safe and God Bless.”
