The Kinder Council heard from Jerrie Ledoux, community liaison for U.S. Congressman Mike Johnson and considered introducing two ordinances at Monday’s meeting.
Ledoux discussed the importance of participating in the U.S. Census this year. She said everyone would receive an invitation to participate between March 12, to March 20. Participants will be asked to answer 10 questoins which should take less than 10 minutes. No information will be shared with any other agency.
The data from the Census is used for 10 years to divert funding to states for economic development, grants, redistricting, emergency services, etc. These are crucial dollars every state needs to survive.
If you wish to learn more about the Census, Traci Fontenot, town clerk, said she would put information about the project on Kinder’s website, https://townofkinder.com.
The council also considered introducing two ordinances during the town’s attorney’s report. Council members did approve introducing Ordinance No. 862, which will provide for the continued levy of a one percent sales and use tax in the Town of Kinder as authorized at a special election held November 16, 2019.
The second ordinance was drafted, but council members chose to table changing the town’s rules to include the use of UTVs.
In his engineer report, Wesley Miller discussed the plans for the proposed $3.3 million wastewater treatment plant renovation the town hopes to complete next year. The engineering firm is working on plans, funding, etc. The town hopes to receive a loan from DEQ in the future. Residents may see more activity by October through early 2021 as the plans come together for this renovation project.
Police Chief Paul Courville received permission to hire a part-time dispatcher, Phoebe Westmore.
Fontenot and the town attorney Mike Holmes did review a beverage license application from El Mariachi. Holmes advised Fontenot to make sure certain documents were completed and in the package. If all items were there, the license could be approved.
