Reeves’ Council clarifies resolution to increase rates

Posted on January 9, 2020

The Village of Reeves clarified action it took in September at its January 6, meeting Monday night in regards to increasing the sewer rates.
In September, the council adopted a resolution to increase residential rates for sewer usage to a $20 flat fee with a $2 overage charge after 3,000 gallons, effective with the November bills. (The former rate was $15 with a $1.25 overage rate.)
A study of the village’s system and discussion by the council led to the increase, so the community could qualify for grants to help improve the present system.
At this month’s meeting, the council verified rate increases would apply to commercial and church use. The commercial rates were $15 a mnth for 3,000 gallons and $1.25 for every 1,000 gallons used thereafter. The rates will increase to a $20 minimum fee for the first 3,000 gallons used and $2 for every 1,000 gallons used after 3,000. Church rates were $35 a month and will increase to $40 a month for the first 13,000 gallons. Churches will pay $2 for every 1,000 gallons used after the initial 13,000. The increase will be effective on the next billing cycle.
Mayor Chris Guillory made his appointments by re-appointing Kamela Kingrey as the village’s clerk and Chad Guidry as the village’s lawyer. The council approved the recommendation.
An ordinance was introduced by Councilman Randall Credeur to adopt certain drug and thief charges for prosecution purposes in the mayor’s court. They will be published once approved.
Police Chief Waylin Bertrand asked the council to get quotes to repair the storage building behind the police station. He also asked to purchase a program so the ITT man could remotely access the department’s computers for repair purposes, etc.
The Hertiage Festival is scheduled for May 9th.
