The Fifth Annual Veterans Day Pancake Breakfast will be Saturday, November 2, at the Kinder Community Center, 316 N. Eighth St., from 6 to 10 a.m.
Eric Kuyper, commander of the Alvin L. Nevils Post 244 American Legion Hall in Kinder, is inviting the community to this free event. Over the last four years, they have fed about 1,000 people and hope to feed at least 400 more this year.
“This is a thank you and appreciation to our local veterans for their service to this country,” Kuyper said.
He encouraged the public to come and have breakfast with the veterans and learn more about their lives. He said everyone who joins them on Saturday will enjoy pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, honey buns, orange juice, Community Coffee and all the fixings.
Veterans will have the opportunity to win over 30 door prizes including gift cards, baskets, etc. donated by local businesses and community members. Kuyper said organizers thank everyone who have supported this event in any form.
The Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 215, will set up a POW/MIA table.
DJ Dontae Solomor of Oakdale, a veteran, will play music throughout the event.
The Kinder High and Middle School band members will be selling poppies. Proceeds will help the students purchase new band uniforms.
If you are a veteran, bring your ID or discharge papers to be entered into the drawings for door prizes.
Kuyper said they are always looking for volunteers. He said extra hands are nice to have. If anyone wishes to volunteer or donate a door prize, please contact Kuyper at eric.kuyper@yahoo.com.
Kuyper said after breakfast, be sure to visit the Harvest Fest at the catholic church, which opens at 10 a.m.
