The undefeated Oberlin Tigers hosted the undefeated Grand Lake Hornets for early season supremacy in District 4-1A. As the night progressed, Oberlin’s Collin Chatman led the charge with three touchdowns, and, after the dust of battle settled, it was his Tigers who emerged victoriously by a final score of 34-13.
Chatman’s first touchdown came on a 27-yard pass from Levi Peloquin. The extra point was good to give Oberlin the 7-0 lead.
That reception was Chatman’s only one of the night. He added 162 yards rushing on 27 carries with two touchdowns.
After Chatman’s initial touchdown, Oberlin followed it up with a Trevor Rider 14-yard touchdown run. The Tigers went on to close out the first quarter with a 14-0 lead.
Aiden Reed extended the lead for Oberlin in the second quarter on a 24-yard touchdown trot, and the Tigers led 21-0 at intermission.
Both teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter meaning Oberlin took a 27-7 lead into the final stanza.
The teams traded touchdowns again in the fourth quarter.
Behind Chatman’s effort was Trevor Rider who also exceed 100 yards rushing on the night. He carried the ball 19 times for 139 yards.
Jared Joubert led the Tigers in receptions with two for 74 yards.
Oberlin is now 6-0 on the season ans 3-0 in district.
Meanwhile, down Hwy 165 in Kinder, the Yellow Jackets ended their losing skid and defeated Rosepine 42-26 in the opening game of district play.
Skyler Leckelt led the way for Kinder with 120 yards rushing on 12 carries with three touchdowns.
Leckelt’s first touchdown was the opening score of the night as he sprinted into the end zone from nine yards out.
Kinder added another touchdown in the first quarter on a one-yard quarterback keeper by Hayes Fawcett.
Rosepine, in the second quarter, cut into the Kinder lead on a 15-yard touchdown run by Grant Ducote. The extra point try was no good as Kinder maintained a 14-6 lead.
Kinder responded on a 25-yard touchdown carry by Griffin Cooley. The point after attempt was good to extend the Yellow Jacket lead to 21-6.
Rosepine added another touchdown in the second quarter, and the teams went into the lockerroom with Kinder leading 21-12.
Both teams scored twice in the third quarter to make the score 35-26 in favor of Kinder going into the final frame.
The last touchdown of the night came in the fourth quarter on an 11-yard touchdown run by Kinder’s Kevon Freeman.
Kinder now at 2-4 and 1-0 heads to Oakdale tonight for their first game against the Warriors as district rivals.
