Allen Oaks Nursing Home visited the Oakdale City Council meeting last Thursday evening to address their plans on expanding the building.
Amy Tolleson, Allen Oaks Administrator, displayed the plans for the 25,000 square foot expansion. This expansion would require for them to purchase or for the city to abandon a small part of East 6th Ave from 15th Street to 16th Street for the nursing home to use in conjunction with their current parking lot, which is across the street.
They are hoping to give the residents a more private experience with private rooms and en suite bathrooms and give them a feeling of home where their lives are more resident directed.
They would also be able to provide a wider spectrum of rehab and therapy.
City Attorney Ray Rush agreed to look into the legalities and see what the city’s options are and present them at the next meeting for the council to vote on.
Tolleson commented this project would be beneficial to all those involved. The nursing home would be adding 15-20 more employees, it would be a larger property tax component and it would keep families closer to home.
