An Oakdale man was struck and killed near the Koasati Pines Golf Course, which is part of the Coushatta Casino Resort, early Saturday morning, September 28.
Oberlin Police Chief Grady Haynes said officers were dispatched to the area at approximately 4:32 a.m. and located Landry Roberts, 32, of Oakdale, in the median, who died on the scene. He said it appears Roberts was attempting to cross from the southbound side to the northbound side of U.S. 165 when he was struck by a Ford F-150 truck, which was driven by Shane Gilley, 47, of Oakdale.
Haynes said Gilley, who reported hitting something on the roadway and was not sure what he hit. He told authorities it may have been a deer or something else.
A breathalyzer analysis was administered to Gilley, and Hayes said it was negative. He said a toxicology report is pending for Roberts.
Haynes said, “Landry was pronounced dead at the scene, and no charges were filed against Gilley.”
Assisting Oberlin Police Department at the scene were the Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police.
